Working on Sustainability

In the training, women learn in two groups of 5 different skills in both sewing and entrepreneurship. During the implementation, we will discuss with the participants, who want to become an entrepreneur ánd have the skills to become one, and who is looking for employment.

Self-reliance of the project participants:

All participants receive:

  • A Starting Kit which contains a sewing machine, rent of a business space and obligatory license, and materials.
  • After the training participants are guided to start a saving group.
  • Mentoring from KAF after the training and starting period.
  1. For entrepreneurial participants

So from the 10 participants, some will choose starting their own business. For them, we offer the following:

  • After the training they will receive a Starting Kit as a loan.
  • Profits and the saving group enable them to repay the loan and for further investments.

2. For participants seeking for employment

Some of the participants will rather choose for employment. Together with the participants we look for employment opportunities in the community (the sewing machines then stay with KAF). Another option, would be to start as a cooperation under KAF, whereby 30% of the profit will flow to the foundation’s work.

Sustainability of the project:

Kalyet Afya Foundation aims to use the repaid loans to purchase new sewing machines to be able to train new participants, so that new groups can also be trained when this project ends.

In addition, KAF will exchange expertise with iMPACT direct NGO-partner WA-WA Kenya (2h away from us), who has similar projects very successfully. And will integrate those learnings in the project.
