Introduction
In early 2023, International Peace Initiatives, Kenya (IPI) Kenya received an unconditional grant of €4,500 from iMPACT Direct. The objective of this funding was to professionalize their organization and stimulate growth through service diversification, sustainability enhancements, and economic opportunities for the community. The donation has played a crucial role in enhancing their organizational capacity and community service delivery.
Key Milestones and Achievements
- Product Diversification: IPI Kenya successfully expanded its product offerings to include herbal soaps and teas, significantly enhancing customer choice and contributing to increased sales at their shop.
- Tiriji Spa Opening: The refurbishment of their original shop into the Tiriji Spa has been completed. This new beauty parlour has allowed IPI Kenya to diversify services and generate additional revenue.
- Expanded Retail Offerings: The shop now stocks a wider range of products, including shoes, clothing, and fashion items. This expansion has reduced reliance on uniform sales and attracted a broader customer base.
Financial Highlights
The strategic allocation of the grant has resulted in impressive outcomes:
- Uniform Distribution: 450 students received school uniforms through the shop’s initiatives.
- Community Engagement: Over 1,500 community members have been reached and benefited from various programs.
- Revenue Generation: The initiative yielded Kshs. 156,000 from uniform sales and Kshs. 104,000 from tailoring services.
- Cost Savings: Transitioning to own business premises has saved approximately Kshs. 170,000 in rental costs, while creating new job opportunities through the Spa.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, IPI Kenya aims to:
- Continue expanding the offerings from Tiriji Spa, with expected profitability.
- Introduce honey production and vocational skill training, which will benefit even more individuals in the community.
